1. MANDATORY RESTORATIVE AND TRANSFORMATIVE JUSTICE TRAINING FOR STAFF
We demand that the school implement mandatory training around restorative and transformative justice, specifically in regards to dealing with any form of sexual abuse situations.
This will equip teachers with the tools they need to deal with any situations that arise, in a way that does not victim blame. This will allow more victims to speak up about their abuse.
2. REFORM OF THE SEX ED PROGRAM
We demand that there is a radical reform to the current Sex Ed program of learning. It is clearly ineffective, considering the number of statements from Latymer students submitted to the Everyone's Invited page.
We demand that a greater emphasis is placed on teaching and learning about consent.
We demand that small group discussion sessions are implemented on a weekly basis during a tutorial period. The current system of lecture-style learning is not effective.
3. WIDE SCALE CONSULTATION PROCESS
We demand that there be a wide-scale consultation process that will allow all members of the school community (particularly female members) to feed in to the development of a new policy outlining how disciplinary proceedings for misogyny, sexism, harassment, abuse and assault should work.
The process that a student would go through in the situation that they report an incident (examples of some are above) should be clearly and accessibly provided to students at the beginning of each term. It should be made clear that at no point throughout the process would there be any form of victim-blaming.
This will increase the number of incidents that the school are made aware of and will also provide a safer space for victims to talk about their experience and for the victims to seek help.
4. ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
We demand there to be a new policy implemented, following the Consultation Process explained in Demand 3.
We demand there be a zero tolerance policy, which outlines how perpetrators of sexual abuse, misogyny, sexism, sexual harassment and sexual assault will be dealt with. This policy should also demonstrate a commitment to dismantling the structures that allow for there to be Rape Culture at Latymer.
We demand that the school appoint trained members of staff, who students can approach with these issues. Newly appointed trained staff should also be involved in the disciplinary proceedings of toxic behaviours that facilitate rape culture. If any student has been victim to sexual harassment, assault or abuse they should have immediate access to support and information.
The new policy should also detail that if students feel that they have been guilty of misogynistic attitudes in the past they should be allowed the opportunity for reform and growth through guidance and consultation.
5. DEEPER COLLABORATION WITH SEX ED ORGANISATIONS
We demand that the school build deeper relationships with local Sex Ed organisations that can offer monthly workshops and ongoing support from trained volunteers.
An example of a group who have been heavily recommend is Sexplain, who provide up to date & inclusive sex and relationships education programmes, teacher training and workshops that are intersectional, feminist, non-binary and sex-positive.
We also demand that there is minimal/no teacher presence in the workshops that take place. Students may not feel able to speak up about issues if their teacher is listening in and so by not having a teacher there, this could mean students open up more to the trained individuals delivering the workshop.
6. INCREASE IN FEMALE REPRESENTATION
We demand that there is an increase in female representation, specifically in any teams that are set up to deal with misogyny, sexism, transphobia, sexual abuse and harassment reports.
We demand that there is an increase in transparency in staff gender balance. Information surrounding the staff gender balance (including staff who do not identify as either 'male' or 'female') should be published for public viewing online on the school website. This should be reviewed at least annually.
These demands have been developed, taking inspiration from the template email that Everyone's Invited produced.
We also did additional research and added some more demands to the examples provided in the template email, whilst making all the demands more relevant to the situation at Latymer.
